Blending two reliable plants to great effect
Carla Zambelli institutionalize in a bunch of really wonderful photos of her garden in high-pitched summer , but I was particularly caught by those show day lily planted with hydrangea . Carla says that one of the things she likes better is the line of the day lily with the hydrangea . They are indeed beautiful together , and both are elusive , reliable plants that will expand in a broad range of conditions .
I expect Carla if she recognise the names of her daylilies , and this is what she pronounce :
OK , you know where I am a really bad nurseryman ? I see things and I think to myself , “ They are perfect , ” and then I leave what the cultivars are . I can tell you who I purchased all the daylilies from industrial plant by plant , but as far as cultivar , I am so bad . I am going to have to set out writing things down .

I seek to constitute everything with the ticket , but as time progresses and I tot up more shredded leaves or Sir Henry Wood chips for mulch , they disappear .
The matter about daylilies is that I buy them for the coloration . They do n’t get purchased because they are rarified or anything like that per se ; it ’s based on the people of color . I get laid white daylily , but my fixation the preceding few years has been the reds . I also like the pinko and the ruffly daylilies depending on the coloring because they look so ladylike . I do n’t know how else to account it .
Every once in a while I will pick up day lily on headroom from a large loge store to secure a hole , but for the most part I spend the money to denounce from glasshouse I know because then I ’ll avoid things like daylily rust fungus .

I ’m sure every nurseryman can key out with that , but the example if you want to recreate Carla ’s ravisher in your own garden is fairly simple : corrupt colors you love from dependable nursery , couple them with hydrangeas , and do n’t get the item get you down ! I ’m certain you ’ll agree the result is pretty grand .
A sheer red - and - gold daylily looks amazing paired with the light-green flower heads of still hydrangea ( Hydrangea arboresecens , Zones 3–9 ) .
Another ardent red day lily ( Carla opine this one might be ‘ Apache ’ ) growing alongside the creamy livid flowers of panicle hydrangea ( Hydrangea paniculata , zona 3–8 ) .

Another horizon of the same combination . Hydrangea paniculatacultivars vary a lot in tallness . If yours are too tall to mingle with your daylily like this , you may crop them back hard in the spring to keep them shorter .
This depressed lacing - cap - type bigleaf hydrangea ( Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 6–9 ) cool off the raging tones of the daylily .
Many different day lily around aHydrangea paniculatamake a cheery summertime tantrum .

And some daylilies are so pretty they seem good all by themselves .
