Growing Key Limes in North Florida CAN be done !
In aprevious postor two on microclimates , I ’ve mentioned that I grow zone 10 plant in my zona 8b yard .
One tree that has a bass allurement for gardeners is the Key Lime . This tree has almost an almost shamanist wrench upon anyone from about Broward County down south to the Keys . It play the tropics . Margaritas . saltiness pushover .

And of course – the Riley B King of all citrus sweet – Key Lime Proto-Indo European .
Basically , Key Limes =
The trouble is : Key Limes ca n’t stick out freezing since they ’re one of the most tropical of all citrus . Up here , the poor Tree will freeze to the ground ever year , then limp back with a foot or two of growth , only to get strike hard down again . grow them without protective covering is inconceivable – and raise them with protection is risky and time ingest . Can you really be at your house for every hoar ? Will you remember to enfold your savagely thorny Key Lime tree with Christmas light and handle it with blanket ? Will you watch the weather like a hawk all winter ?

Like I state – it ’s metre consuming … and I really do n’t want to discommode . So … here ’s my method .
How To Grow a Key Lime in North Florida
Fortunately , I ’ve receive a way that work without all that trouble . I grow my Key Lime tree out of doors and unprotected and it ’s doing great .
Here it is this very February , after we ’ve had close to ten freezes :
I ’m sure there ’s a pretty way to extract this off – but I ca n’t reason with the results . There ’s a lot of crank young growth right on now that has n’t been touch in the svelte by cold .

You bed … I guess I might need to set a few conch shells down to fit the coconuts ( sadly , imported from south Florida ) at the foundation of that tree .
