Year after year vegetable gardeners strive to grow the most colorful vegetables including yellow peppers, purple eggplants, orange pumpkins and ripe-red tomatoes.
Amy Goldman is an artist in every sense of the word . Not only is she dedicated to preserving heirloom vegetables , but she ’s written some of the most beautiful Quran about grow them . My favourite isThe Compleat Squash , but she ’s also captured the marvel ofMelons for the Passionate GrowerandThe Heirloom Tomato .
Her newest cause , Heirloom Harvest : Modern Daguerreotypes of Historic Garden Treasures(Bloomsbury , 2015 ) , is a mantrap . Instead of capturing the resplendent colors of freshly harvested vegetables or those still raise in veg garden , the Good Book features lustrous images using the daguerreotype photographic process .
Daguerreotype photos are like those other portraits that were create on a piece of silver ( or copper covered in silver ) to bring about stunning black and white-hot or mahogany - color image .

The photographs inHeirloom Harvestwere aim by expert photographer , and foremost daguerreotypist of the modern era , Jerry Spagnoli over 15 year of harvests . Amy grew the fruits and vegetables and Jerry captured the amazing image that show Nantes carrots , Ruby Queen beet , Triamble squashes , January King sneak , Jimmy Nardello pepper — and so much more — in all their glowing and silvery glorification .
The Word of God opens with inspiring images of Amy ’s historical farmplace , repeated and herbaceous plant gardens , adorable pullets , flower , bee , livestock and trees . In the intromission , “ Fruits of the Earth , ” Amy writes of first discovering the 1780s house and details the consecrated redevelopment of the house and garden get going in the 1980s .
Before combining their endowment into this volume , Amy only desire Jerry to capture prototype of some of the fruits and vegetables in her vast gardens . Just as gardens grow , so did the collaborationism that ’s leave in a one - of - a - kind endeavor .

“ Heirloom Harvestis an act of preservation and a way of respect beauty , diversity , and history in the typeface of pressures not to garden , not to save seeds , ” Amy write .
Heirloom Harvestis a gorgeous ledger and utter talent for gardeners , photographers , story buff , and anyone who treasure a fine work of art . Just like each heirloom vegetable that ’s captured in all of its idol , the Word is a uncommon treasure .
( I received a complimentary copy of Heirloom Harvest for this review ; as always , opinion are my own . )
