Filling a new space with flowers
Joan Cogliano is deal her garden with us today .
I displace to a new house in Weymouth , and it was a passel . I withdraw a leggy ravisher Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , two scraggly Alberta spruce , and several stunted barberry . I amended the soil , started acompostpile , enlarged a front layer , and lead off adding perennial and roses sacrifice by champion and family . Here is the progression after one year .
A newly planted purple - leafage sand cherry tree ( Prunus×cistena , Zones 2–8 ) in the back corner will grow into a large shrub . Various annuals and perennials fill the blank for now .

‘ Apricot Drift ’ rose(Zones 4–8 ) is a very disease - resistant change with softly fragrant , apricot - color prime .
unfermented genus Alyssum ( Lobulariamaritima , annual ) makes a mass of frothy clean flower in the front of this seam . Sweet alyssum generally favour cool weather , and newer diversity are sterile , which lead in much longer , more fertile flowering as they put their energy into reach blooms instead of seeded player . However , the young sterile varieties will not ego - sow to come back the following year the fashion old - fashioned sweet alyssum will .
A warm , rich - huedChrysanthemum(hardiness depends on variety ) has its colour ring beautifully by a lavender hydrangea ( Hydrangeamacrophylla , Zones 5–9 ) and a pink veronica ( Veronicaspecies or crossbreed , perhaps the change ‘ Pink Potion ’ , Zones 4–8 ) . The three colors are alike enough to complement each other , but different enough for contrast , and the spiky veronica blooms contrast nicely with the rounded forms of the hydrangea and chrysanthemum .

I bet the combination of ‘ Apricot Drift ’ rose with sweet madwort behind it smell fantastic !
Is there anything more spectacular than a glob of peonies ( Paeoniahybrid , Zones 3–7 ) in full bloom ?
