The Mulberry Tree.

The Mulberry tree : Morus nigraI am following is very old   and   has diachronic affiliation .

It is enunciate to have been planted in   1550 by Adam Winthrop the gramps of John Winthrop . John Winthrop led a party of Puritans to recover a settlement in North America in 1630 . He became the first Governor of Massachusetts .

Adam Winthrop was a haberdasher but the family probably had financial trouble when there was a slump in the textile trade in 1550 . Many haberdasher turned to silk as an choice and indeed silk is still made in nearby Sudbury . It is possible that the Winthrops decided to plant mulberry tree Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree   for the silk craft . This Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree sit by itself in the heart of a arena close to the Winthrop ’s family seat . I wonder if there was once a whole field of mulberry tree trees and that this is the only one allow . It was a common mistake when this tree diagram was so new and alien to plant the ignominious mulberry : Morus nigrainstead of the white one : Morus   albawhich is the one used in silkworm production .   John Winthrop go to America for religious reasons but maybe for financial ones as well when the silk making project occur to nothing .

It is hard to believe that this tree is so sure-enough but I imagine that as the year went by the tree fell down and revitalize itself from the place where the trunk encounter the earth .

The field where this Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is to be recover is called the croft and is maintained for the use of the the great unwashed of the village of Groton , Suffolk . In belated summer masses from the village pick the juicy berries for jam and Proto-Indo European . They are very protective of the tree and get very annoyed when outsiders come and piece the yield .

I do n’t know why the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is kept in a cage , I don ’ think he is going to warp himself out of the ground and take off down the lane . Not at his heavy age .

I have a mulberry tree in my garden which I am tell is about 40 twelvemonth old and was grown from a cutting from the Groton mulberry tree . I make up one’s mind to watch the honest-to-god tree rather than mine because I am fascinated by its great age and the history surrounding it .

The mulberry tree is always recently fare into leafage and the buds show no sign of opening as yet .

Talking about mulberries made me wonder about the derivation of the children ’s nursery rhyme ; ‘ Here we go round the mulberry tree chaparral ‘ . on the face of it it is thought that this was the chant of con at Wakefield prison . As they exercised they walk round and round out the mulberry tree diagram in the prison house yard .

Your multi - cauline tree diagram look strange but should be handy for picking the yield . At Wiveton Hall palisade garden in Norfolk they have a Brobdingnagian mulberry tree tree in the centre of the garden it is magnificent . appear onward to consider its advance through the yr .

What an awe-inspiring tree ! I like how it has spring back to sprightliness when the trunk has descend . I ’m looking ahead to see more of it over the year .

I certainly enjoy encounter that mythic tree Chloris over a belated morning cuppa . ignominy that it is caged in . I recognize what I ’m go to be babble for the rest period of the day !

I would lie with to have a mulberry tree in my garden , I have n’t ruled out planting one in a whisky barrelful or large pot . What a mythic story behind the tree you pick to follow .

I like this tree diagram — it appear to be produce along the ground and send branches up ! and I see something of our ( USA ) account too 😉

It is indeed a brilliant Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . In our erstwhile garden every year many mulberry trees came up from seed send away by birds . I do n’t have it away what kind it was , probably the blackamoor , and I never found out where the female parent tree diagram was .
