I attended the American Library Association ’s one-year conference in Chicago as a feature author with Quarto Publishing . That place ( my first time being there ) was my dream audience ! I made the Stovetop Skillet Pizza with Fresh Corn , Tomato , Prosciutto , and Pesto ( from pageboy 143 of my Quran ) on the ALA Demonstration Stage to a room full of food and outdoor lovers .

get me tell you … If I can make the dough from scratch in my tiny hotel room the night before , store it in the tiny mini stripe fridge until the next dawning , then cook that pizza on a tiny , odd burner in a pattern hall that afternoon , you may make that same formula anywhere , on any cheap summer camp stove ! ( And you probably wo n’t have TSA eyeing you suspiciously as you go through surety at the airport with a cast - iron pan , amalgamate bowls , measuring cup , and pair of tongs pack in your carryon travelling bag . )

Here ’s a shooter from my Saturday night in the hotel , kneading dough by hand while marathoning HGTV shows . Such is the glamourous lifespan of a cookery book author . Ha !

After doling out pizza pie samples from the stage , I sat at the signing mesa , where a farseeing line of book folk were waiting with heavy smile on their faces . It was in truth a pleasure to meet so many enthusiastic and excellent librarians at a undivided event , and I loved chatting with everybody about their summer holiday plans , which included — you guessed it — road - tripping and gondola bivouacking !

Some of the librarians were also Scout leaders , wilderness guides , park Tennessean , or lifelong outdoorsmen , so there were plenty of tip to be swop . I ended up signing so many books after my cooking demo that my marker run out of ink ! ( A great way to end an event , if you ask me . )

This past weekend , I stopped by my local Barnes & Noble   and blemish mentions of my   al-Qur’an in the July / August 2017 issue of Country Living Magazine ( in a feature article about “ top , tricks , and tactics for life in the not - so wild ” ) and the July 10 , 2017 takings of Time Magazine ( in a roundup of “ coffee - table lit and cookbooks so deluxe , it call for a recital staycation ” ) .

I ’ve also started seeing some mythological posts on Instagram of recipes made from my book . I am seriously psyched on all of those !
